Where We Work - Tanzania

Upendo Acadamy
Arusha, Tanzania

Upendo Academy is the labour of love of social worker Isabella Mwampamba who has committed herself to providing a quality education to impoverished and marginalized children in the surrounding community. Isabella has given up her own home which has now been transformed in the two small classrooms used to teach 36 needy children.  Next year the school will enrol 54 more pupils and hire two more teachers to join the two already in place.

Matumaini HostelCommitted to the higher educational standards, Upendo Academy is an English Medium School which provides English education at the primary level to better prepare children for the often difficult transition to secondary school where instruction is in English across Tanzania.
Currently supporting primary education, Isabella’s vision is to build a comprehensive school, including a secondary school to support the children from early childhood education through to college.

Upendo Academy’s objectives include:

  1. Implementing cost-effective community-based  school and development programs  to improve the quality of life of vulnerable children
  2. Easing the availability of education services to children living in destitution
  3. Creating an environment that will facilitate learning by providing good nutrition, health and parenting education

Isabella works closely with the community and parents to engage them in the education process.

To attain her vision, Isabella’s school needs resources and reliable funding sources. Key priorities include:

  • School supplies – Textbooks, exercise books, pencils, desks, chairs, shelves, classrooms maintenance
  • Scholarship funding for children in the community
  • New classrooms to accommodate more students and build the long term vision (for more information email info@kensingtoncares.org)
